In this article, we're going to discuss:

M·E·L Research is a Birmingham-based social research agency that delivers insight to public sector organisations and charities. Since January 2024 M·E·L Research has adopted a 9 day fortnight working model, with the 10th day being a non-working day.

"During a trial period we saw very quickly how SlideGen could help us make reporting tasks quicker."

Explaining the decision, Managing Director Karen Etheridge says “We believe that by adopting a work schedule that prioritises our employees’ well-being and work-life balance, we are not only reinforcing our commitment to our team but also enhancing our ability to meet and exceed our clients’ expectations. When our team is healthier, more balanced, and motivated, they bring their best selves to their work, which in turn leads to higher quality, more insightful research solutions for our clients”

Adopting this model challenges M·E·L Research to continue offering high quality work to a growing customer base while dropping the hours worked. Their team have been scrutinising each step of how their research projects are delivered to look for efficiencies.

They realised a need to:

  • Visualise findings quicker
  • Free up time for interpretation and analysis
  • Focus on storytelling and not simply inputting data

Steve Handley, Quantitative Research Director explains: “The analysis and reporting we deliver is what allows us to make a difference for our clients and to the social  issues we care about. So finding a more intuitive and efficient way to visualise research findings has become a key priority for us this year. During a trial period we saw very quickly how SlideGen could help us make reporting tasks quicker. We feel it will support our ongoing efforts to use our time in the smartest way possible and keep workloads manageable.”

Majeed Saheb-Zadha, Founder of Indico Labs, is impressed by the company ethos, “I’m pleased that our automation software is supporting M·E·L Research to focus on what really grows their company, unlocking the talent of their teams and being able to take on more jobs. We made SlideGen to allow researchers to manage their own timelines and cut time-costly repetitive tasks. Seeing M·E·L use this technology to support staff wellbeing and growth is inspiring”
