Supercharge boring appendix sections in your Market Research reports [Video Tutorial]

Step 1:

You're going to need access to the Indico Labs Report Builder. If you don't already have access, fill out the form below and a member of the team will be in touch to help you get started.

We are going to use the Report Builder to turn your usually static appendix section into something we call a DashBox.

A DashBox is essentially a cross between a PowerPoint report and a Dashboard, allowing you to deliver interactive reports on all projects - not just those that come with a big budget assigned.

Step 2:

You're going to need your data tables - sometimes known as crosstabs or banner tables. Now we're uploading aggregated data here, rather than raw respondent-level data. You will need to make sure you have all the columns and rows that you want your client to have access to. We're essentially putting a user interface directly on top of these tables.

Step 3:

Upload your data tables to the Indico Labs report builder. The platform uses smart technology to identify where the different information is. It pulls out the columns, rows, question text - even the base information.

If you want to, you have the option to pick a sub-section of your tables to create slides for. If not, you just need to hit import and all of your tables will be loaded to the platform in a flash, and you will instantly see one slide generated per table.

Step 4:

Import whatever PowerPoint template you'd like your charts to appear in. This might be your own template or your client's - whichever you'd prefer.

The platform takes on all of the branding, colour schemes, logo, fonts etc so it already looks familiar to your client.  This will also be the PowerPoint that is used if your client chooses to download their version of the report from the DashBox.

Step 5:

Name the project something that would make sense to the client

Now, you could just download to PowerPoint and deliver a static appendix section to your client. This is probably a huge improvement on how you're currently building appendix sections, but you can almost guarantee they will request a new version based on a different audience, or using a different chart type.

This is where we turn your usually static deliverable into a magical DashBox link.

Step 6:

We're going to go to the projects area and hit the "Create DashBox" button.

We don't really need to do anything here but you can drop in a link to your logo for added customization. You can also change the expiration date and turn on significance testing for your more data-savvy customers.

Update the DashBox and the link has been copied.

Your DashBox is ready!

When your customer clicks on the link, they'll receive access to an online, interactive chart book. They can jump to any question from their survey, choose any cut of the data and any chart type they like. When they're happy they can export that single chart or the entire deck to PowerPoint.

By giving the power back to your client, you're not only saving yourself heaps of time, but you're also generating huge value for your client.
